City of Kelowna mentorship program wins national award

At the 2025 national conference of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators held in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, the City of Kelowna was honored with an award recognizing its exceptional workplace environment in the category for municipalities with over 100,000 residents.
Kelowna earned the award for its Leadership Development Mentorship Program, which started in 2018 and supports employee development.
The program pairs 65 completed and 30 current mentor-mentee pairs from nine distinct city departments based on skills and goals to foster cross-department collaboration.
City manager Doug Gilchrist stated that the program offers employees and leaders the chance to be mentored by city leaders or subject matter experts from different departments, often beyond their usual divisional unit.
