Burrow: Bengals ‘Got to Be Better’ After Week 5 Win as Bye Begins
Joe Burrow said the bye gives Cincinnati time to heal as offseason defensive additions have helped the Bengals lead the NFL in run stuff rate through Week 5.
The Cincinnati Bengals enter their bye week with a 3-2 record after Sunday's 31-24 win over the Miami Dolphins, with head coach Zac Taylor saying the break arrives "at a great time" as players are "worn out" from a taxing stretch.
Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Bryan Cook have missed time over the past two weeks with injuries, severely testing depth at receiver and safety; penalties and turnovers have also plagued the team through five games.
Defensive investments in the offseason are paying off, with Linebacker Boye Mafe emerging as a key pass rusher who has "contributed a lot to the personality of our defense," Taylor said, helping the unit develop consistent chemistry.
During the bye, the team plans to self-scout and regroup for the second half of the season; Taylor noted that recent issues are "not a concern that this is unfixable," requiring only minor adjustments.
The Bengals will travel to face the Baltimore Ravens on October 25 at M&T Bank Stadium in an AFC North matchup that serves as a critical pivot point for the team's playoff aspirations this season.
