In 2025, 66,930 Catholics turned their backs on their religious community – 6.4% less than in 2024. However, the proportion of Catholics in Austria continues to decline: from 49.6 percent to 48.7 percent. A slight warning is given in the case of finances.
The decline in the withdrawals from the Roman Catholic Church continued in 2025. After 85,163 withdrawals in 2023 and 71,531 in 2024, 2025 "only 66,930 persons left the church, as the official statistics published on Wednesday show. Nevertheless, the Catholic population has declined as expected, from 4,56 million in 2024 (Stichtag 31.12.) to 4,49 million in 2025.
