Beams From Truck Load Smash Through Truck in California, Officials Say
CHP said only minor injuries were reported as long construction materials pierced a Toyota pickup’s cab and shattered its windshield.
On Wednesday morning, beams from a big rig smashed through a pickup truck on the I-405 Freeway in Westminster, piercing the driver's side just above the steering wheel.
The incident occurred when cargo from a work truck shifted during transport, protruding into the cab of a Toyota pickup and demonstrating how improperly secured loads create serious public safety hazards.
Photos revealed extensive damage to the windshield with shattered glass surrounding the cargo near the front passenger side, yet miraculously only minor injuries were reported despite the alarming penetration.
CHP shared images of the aftermath on social media, warning motorists about dangers posed by shifting cargo that can fall during transport and create hazardous conditions for other drivers.
"Before hitting the road, make sure your load is properly secured, tied down, not overloaded, and safe for travel," CHP Westminster wrote, noting that preparation can prevent serious crashes and save lives.
