Chinese University of Hong Kong Enters Top 20 in QS World University Rankings
CUHK’s rise reflects stronger research, employer reputation and international student numbers, with 15 subjects in the global top 50.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong climbed 14 places to rank 18th globally, entering the global top 20 for the first time. This milestone reflects significant improvements in employer reputation, international research network, and international student ratio.
CUHK provides an exceptional environment for impactful research, supported by around 300 research institutes and centres alongside four state key laboratories approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
The 2026–27 U.S. News and World Report rankings place CUHK 28th globally and 5th in Asia, while the university features 15 subjects in the global top 50, including five in the top 10.
PhD student Zhamilya Zhirenova from Kazakhstan deepened her expertise through the Centre for Neuromusculoskeletal Restorative Medicine at Hong Kong Science Park. Chemical pathology student Yasine Malki benefits from mentorship by Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo.
Applications for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme open on 1 September 2026, offering around 170,000 in funding for the 2027 intake. This initiative supports CUHK's ongoing commitment to attracting global research talent.
