In the takeover process, the Chinese e-commerce company JD.com has expanded its stake in "Mediamarkt-Saturn".
The Chinese trading group JD.com has been buying shares of the parent company of the electronic chain Mediamarkt-Saturn for a long time. In the meantime, the stake is over 70 percent.
Among other things, the final takeover lacks the green light of other EU countries.
JD.com plans to acquire Ceconomy, the parent company of Media Markt and Saturn, by mid-2026; the deal is currently over 70 percent complete. Approval from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the European Commission is still required for the acquisition to be finalized.
At first, Mediamarkt and Saturn were competitors, but they have long been part of the same group, which in turn is likely to change ownership.
