Under pressure from Washington, the Caribbean state of Cuba wants to implement an economic reform modelled on the socialist market economy of China and Vietnam.
The reform still needs to be approved by the Communist Party Politburo and the Cuban parliament.
More private, less state: Surprisingly, the president of the Caribbean State announced a reform. Cuba has been in a serious crisis for a long time.
Instead of the planned economy, which has so far been heavily controlled by the state, more private sector involvement is being planned, and pressure from Washington is causing real change in Cuba for the first time.
