Child in critical condition after being trapped underwater at a riverfront park in Enderby
Bystanders, including a doctor and nurse, performed CPR after the child was found underwater and pinned by deadwood, police said.
- On Monday, Aug. 3, a nine-year-old child from Calgary was found in critical condition after being submerged in the Shuswap River at W.J. Tuey Regional Park in Enderby.
- Numerous bystanders immediately launched a search in the river, with one individual locating the child pinned against submerged deadwood; bystanders, including a doctor and nurse, administered CPR.
- Following the rescue, Ambulance Services transported the child to the hospital in critical condition; officials estimate the child was submerged for five to 10 minutes before being pulled to shore.
- According to RCMP Cpl. Tania Finn, "No criminality is suspected and no further details will be released," while the family is being supported by RCMP Victim Services.
- Police urge the use of personal flotation devices near moving water, highlighting dangers surrounding all bodies of water and the risk posed by submerged obstacles.
