4-Year-Old Child Dies Days After Crash that Also Took Mother’s Life; Infant Brother Survives
Police said the driver died at the scene and her 4-year-old daughter died two days later, while her 1-year-old son survived with injuries.
The Anchorage Police Department confirmed that a 4-year-old girl died on July 30 after being hospitalized from a July 28 crash at Northern Lights Boulevard and UAA Drive.
Driver Kylie Hoogendorn, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene after her GMC Sierra struck a light post in East Anchorage around 12 a.m. on July 28.
Hoogendorn's 1-year-old son survived the collision but sustained injuries to his legs, according to family members and police.
Community members established a GoFundMe for the family, remembering Hoogendorn as a mother who "loved her two babies with her whole heart," while the Anchorage Police Department continues investigating.
APD spokesperson Gina Romero did not immediately respond to questions on Tuesday morning about the children's conditions or investigation details. No further updates have been provided by authorities.
