6 arrested in alleged stolen car chase in Chula Vista
- On Thursday around 11 p.m., a police pursuit that began in National City involving a vehicle reported stolen ended in Chula Vista near San Miguel Ranch Road, resulting in the arrest of six people on Friday.
- The National City Police Department was alerted to the allegedly stolen vehicle by a smart camera and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and continued onto southbound Interstate 5 and then east on State Routes 54 and 125.
- In East Oakland on March 20 around 6 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop 35-year-old James Jovan Thomas from San Leandro for running a red light, which led to a brief chase that was called off due to safety concerns, but Thomas continued driving recklessly and collided with a passenger car.
- The crash in East Oakland resulted in serious injuries to Perez, who had broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, and lacerations, and also injured a boy in the back of the passenger car who is now recovering from skull fracture surgery and a brain hemorrhage at Oakland UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
- In Pleasant Hill, four adult suspects were apprehended and arrested after allegedly robbing a 7-Eleven store at 601 Patterson Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. On Thursday, stealing multiple cartons of cigarettes from delivery trucks, and fleeing in a stolen vehicle that was later located on Highway 4 near Concord, leading to a pursuit supported by a police helicopter and multiple police departments.
