Child, Adult Found Dead in Lake Erie Following Search for Overdue Boaters
Ontario Provincial Police say the pair was found more than 3 1/2 kilometres from shore after being reported overdue.
- On Monday, the bodies of a seven-year-old child and a 53-year-old adult from Norfolk County were recovered from Lake Erie near Williams, Ont., after being reported overdue.
- Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of overdue boaters near Townline Street on Monday afternoon; a passing boater located the victims more than 3 1/2 kilometres from shore.
- The Canadian Coast Guard recovered the bodies from the water following the discovery, and members of the Ontario Provincial Police traffic incident management and enforcement team are assisting the investigation.
- OPP Sgt. Sanchuk expressed condolences on Monday in a video posted to social media, stating, "As a father, I can't even imagine what you're going through."
- Police said further updates will be provided as more details come to light regarding the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
