Chicago Police Officer, at Least One Other Person Shot in Albany Park
Police said multiple people were shot and the officer was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, while the suspect and motive remain unclear.
On Monday, a Chicago Police SWAT officer was shot during a domestic incident in the Albany Park neighborhood in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue around 11:11 a.m.
A man reportedly shot a woman before barricading himself inside the home with a 13-year-old boy, according to a preliminary incident report. The SWAT team was called to resolve the domestic standoff.
The 20-year veteran SWAT officer was shot in the stomach and transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for surgery. Two other people were injured and taken to area hospitals.
Authorities took a suspect into custody around 1:15 p.m. following the standoff. The Chicago Fire Department dispatched five ambulances to the scene during the emergency response.
Chicago Police Department officials have not yet released details regarding the suspect's identity or motive. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue processing the scene of the Monday morning incident.
