Osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as OI (from the Latin name osteogenesis imperfecta), is a rare genetic disease characterized by brittle bones that break easily, often without an obvious cause and without significant trauma. The disease has varying degrees of severity, from mild cases with a small number of fractures to severe forms that can lead to serious deformities and other health complications. In extreme cases, it is the cause of death.
