CHENEY, Wash. - Cheney Mayor Elsa Martin and the Cheney City Council unanimously voted Tuesday night to appoint Chris Oaks as chief of police, the city's first permanent chief since 2022.

Oakes has served as interim chief since last May, following the resignation of Rick Beghtol. In a post on Facebook, Cheney Police calls this a "historic moment"
