ChatGPT helps Michigan woman claim $100K in Powerball winnings

Tammy Carvey used AI-generated numbers when Powerball jackpot exceeded $1 billion, winning $100,000 after her $50,000 prize was doubled by the Power Play, officials said.

  • Tammy Carvey, 45, of Wyandotte won a $100,000 prize after using ChatGPT to pick numbers and buying her ticket online at MichiganLottery.com for the Sept. 6 drawing.
  • Carvey said she only plays Powerball when the jackpot gets up there and the jackpot was over $1 billion; Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold across Michigan and online.
  • According to Michigan Lottery, Carvey said, `When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something.` The prize doubled thanks to the Power Play, she said.
  • Michigan Lottery says Carvey recently claimed her prize at its headquarters and plans to pay off her home and save the rest, the lottery reported.
  • This is the second time in recent weeks that AI-picked numbers produced a winning ticket, as Virginia winner Carrie Edwards used ChatGPT and won a $150,000 prize.
