ChatGPT back up after a brief outage, Downdetector shows
OpenAI addressed a ChatGPT outage causing over 15,000 user reports by applying mitigations and monitoring recovery amid ongoing investigations into elevated error rates.
- On Feb. 4, ChatGPT experienced a surge of user reports peaking at more than 15,000 around 12:30 p.m. ET; OpenAI said it applied a mitigation and was monitoring recovery.
- OpenAI said elevated error rates for finetuning jobs caused ChatGPT issues, echoing a similar disruption Feb. 3 when Downdetector logged over 25,000 reports.
- Users reported failed conversations and screenshots from Pro accounts, with reports beginning late morning and peaking near 12,000 around 11:30 a.m. central, Downdetector shows.
- By early afternoon, the company reported reports eventually fell below 500 and OpenAI said a fix had been implemented by 1 p.m. Eastern.
- OpenAI has not had major multihour outages recently but has seen repeated 35 to 45 minute disruptions in recent weeks, and it remains unclear where the issue stems from.
