Arizona Teen Donates Organs in Final Act of Kindness Following Deadly Car Crash
His organs will help save or improve at least three lives, according to his parents.
On Monday, 16-year-old Chandler High School sophomore Jayben Camacho died following a car crash last Thursday, with parents Mary Claire Camacho and Benny Camacho Jr. confirming he donated his organs to three recipients.
Police report Jayben was crossing the street outside a crosswalk in front of Chandler High when struck by a vehicle; the driver remained at the scene and the crash remains under investigation.
Jayben's heart will go to a 15-year-old, his lungs to a patient on a respirator, and parts of his liver to a five-month-old. His father, Benny Camacho Jr., said it was "something that I think is just in him to be helpful, be kind, be generous to anybody really."
Friends, teachers, and family attended an Honor Walk for Jayben at Chandler Regional Medical Center on Monday, while a verified GoFundMe page was established and a memorial now sits outside Chandler High School.
This incident marks one of three crashes involving teens near Valley schools within the past week. Jayben is remembered by peers and educators as an aspiring game designer and chef who motivated and supported those around him.
