Champions League: Lille Bows Against Galatasaray, Manchester United Dark at Como
Victor Osimhen scored his first Champions League goal of the season as Galatasaray ended Lille’s perfect start and earned their first win.
On Wednesday, Galatasaray beat Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League, securing their first victory of the campaign and ending a five-game away losing streak.
Ahead of the match at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti stressed the need for a "collective effort" to contain striker Victor Osimhen, dismissing reliance on individual defenders.
After Soriba Diaoune put Lille ahead, Aleksey Batrakov leveled before half-time; Lucas Torreira then put Galatasaray ahead in the second half before Osimhen, voted Man of the Match, added the final goal.
Defeat leaves Lille without a point after three matches, while Galatasaray's comeback win provides a significant boost to their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Osimhen, who played for Lille during the 2019/2020 season, chose not to celebrate his goal against his former club, having previously earned the team's Player of the Season award.
The full results of the Champions League matchday three presented a surprise after Como thrashed Manchester United 4-1 and Calvin Verdonk made his starting debut for Lille.
Lille didn't win on Wednesday 21 October against the Turks of Galatasaray, 4-2 winners at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, and remains at the bottom of the table with three defeats in three matches. Manchester United had a nightmare night in Como, which outclassed English club 4 to 1.
