CEO killed at industrial site by worker operating forklift while talking on the phone, OSHA report shows
OSHA cited three contractors for safety violations including failing to enforce forklift safety rules after CEO Sunbok You was fatally struck at a Hyundai megasite construction site.
OSHA's recently closed investigation found 45-year-old Sunbok You, CEO of SBY America, was struck and killed by a forklift at the HL-GA Battery Company construction site on March 21, 2025.
OSHA found translated safety manager statements saying the forklift driver, employee of Beyond Iron Construction, was on the phone and fled without checking, while You wore a black vest, not the required high-visibility green vest under HL-GA Battery Company rules.
OSHA cited Beyond Iron Construction, SBY America, subcontractor, and HL-GA Battery Company, fining them $16,550, $9,268, and $1,800 respectively.
OSHA's files show HL-GA Battery Company offered condolences, reinforced protocols, cooperated with OSHA, and dropped SBY America and Beyond Iron Construction as contractors recently.
The site has a pattern, with Bryan County EMS records showing 53 calls over 16 months, including prior deaths such as Victor Gamboa's 60-foot fall.
