Celtic warned of Hearts revenge mission as title charge might not be a one-off
Celtic defeated Hearts 7-1 at Parkhead yesterday, moving four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a dominant performance that saw the hosts lead 5-1 by halftime.
Head coach Wouter Vrancken's attacking philosophy left Hearts defensively vulnerable; Celtic ruthlessly exploited careless midfield play and set-piece vulnerabilities, scoring twice from corners within 10 minutes to establish early control.
Callum Osmand scored twice, while Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, and Camilo Duran also netted; Hearts produced 20 shots but only Laurent Mendy found the net, highlighting goalkeeper Beau Reus's constant pressure.
Celtic winger Haissem Hassan suggested the score could have reached 10 without Reus's saves, while Tierney told Sky Sports, "We took our chances." Fans celebrated with the Magnificent Seven theme tune in the 83rd minute.
A scout from Serie A side Sassuolo observed the match to assess talent including internationalists Josh Doig and Kieron Bowie. Celtic's four-point lead positions them strongly, though Hearts must urgently address their defensive vulnerabilities.
