It took almost three weeks for the gold medal from the modern pentathlon world championships to travel from China to the Czech Republic. Its owner, Matěj Lukeš, set off on a journey through Asia with his partner Laura Heredia, a Spanish pentathlon athlete, after the race of his life. And upon his return home on Thursday, he received a truly champion's welcome.
He won the world title on the last weekend of August, but he has only just returned home. After his triumph in Guiyang, China, modern pentathlete Matěj Lukeš and his Spanish girlfriend and fellow pentathlete Laura Heredia planned a trip to Asia. "I enjoyed it to the fullest, it was a nice relaxation. But I was starting to miss training and my usual routine," he smiles.
