Cathay Pacific Plans to Carry More Passengers Despite Disruptions From Iran War
Cathay Pacific doubled fuel surcharges due to March jet fuel price spikes and suspended flights to Dubai and Riyadh while planning 10% capacity growth in 2026.
- On March 11, Cathay Pacific announced it would raise fuel surcharges and suspended all March flights to Dubai and Riyadh amid soaring fuel costs.
- Amid rising jet-fuel prices, chairman Patrick Healy said 'The prevailing global geopolitical environment is volatile, causing unexpected shifts in passenger and cargo traffic flows as well as jet fuel prices' and predicted passenger capacity growth of around 10 percent in 2026.
- Net fuel costs rose 11.2 per cent, increasing overall costs, and Cathay plans to hedge expected fuel consumption while operating extra flights to Europe in March.
- Ms Lorraine Tan warned the jet fuel price jump could hurt profit for the June quarter, and Hong Kong Airlines said on March 10 it will raise surcharges from March 12.
- Despite the squeeze, the Cathay Group reported an attributable profit of HK$10.8 billion in 2025 and paid a second interim dividend of HK$0.84 per share, totaling HK$5.2 billion.
