Carrier's goal snaps 3rd-period tie as Hurricanes beat Islanders 5-3
William Carrier broke a 3-3 tie with 5:08 left, and Sebastian Aho added two assists as Carolina won for the fourth time in five games.
On Thursday, William Carrier buried a rebound with 5:08 remaining to power the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.
The Hurricanes jumped to a two-goal lead early in the first period, but the Islanders erased the deficit with goals from Mitchell Chaffee, Brayden Schenn, and Victor Eklund.
Goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 34 shots for New York, while Sebastian Aho provided two assists and Brandon Bussi recorded 24 saves to help Carolina win its fourth game in five outings.
The Islanders remain winless in regulation over their last six games following this loss and will host New Jersey on Saturday, while the Hurricanes host Chicago.
Despite recording 26 hits and controlling faceoffs, New York struggled on the power play, converting zero of four chances against Brandon Bussi in a performance mixing physical dominance with offensive frustration.
