Carrick 'Not Surprised' He's Still Man Utd's Boss
- Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that Michael Carrick will remain in charge for Saturday's Premier League match against Chelsea, ending days of uncertainty following internal meetings held earlier this week.
- Intense speculation surrounded the 45-year-old following an eight-game winless run, including a 4-1 loss to Como and Sunday's 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, representing the club's worst league start in 40 years.
- Carrick stated he is "not surprised" to retain his position and does not require assurances from the hierarchy, while confirming that Bruno Fernandes will remain team captain after being benched.
- While fans applauded Carrick after the Bournemouth loss, former captain Gary Neville suggested on Thursday that "sometimes a manager needs sacking for their own good" amid ongoing struggles.
- Players remain "hurting" from recent results but show "intensity" as they prepare for the trip to Stamford Bridge, Carrick insisted, while Kobbie Mainoo has returned to training to bolster the squad.
