When Caroline Wadzeck arrived in Dayton fresh out of college, she figured she might stay a couple of years. That was 54 years ago. She had never even heard of Dayton until the late Raymond Trotter, then principal of Colbert Intermediate, showed up at Sam Houston State University looking for teachers. Wadzeck was preparing to graduate and had planned to continue on to graduate school, but Trotter encouraged her to come take a look.
