Carlton stun Dogs to win first match after coach quits
Patrick Cripps inspired a five-goal final quarter as Carlton ended a seven-game skid and won its first match since Michael Voss quit.
On Saturday night at Marvel Stadium, Carlton defeated the Western Bulldogs 74 to 62, ending a seven-game losing streak just four days after head coach Michael Voss resigned.
The win followed a turbulent week at Princes Park, with interim coach Josh Fraser leading the Blues to their second victory this season after Voss quit midway through his fifth year.
Securing 29 disposals, Cripps also orchestrated a dominant final quarter while debutant Jack Ison kicked a crucial late goal after participating in the Sir Doug Nicholls Round pre-match ceremony.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge admitted his team's endeavour was "just a level above ours," while captain Marcus Bontempelli recorded 24 disposals despite ongoing knee and heel issues.
Contracted through 2027, Cripps has not elaborated on his intentions for next year, though the club must convince him over the next three months that he remains central to their plans.
