Cardinals recall right-hander Hunter Dobbins from Triple-A Memphis
Dobbins returns after a 3-0 start at Triple-A Memphis, while Pushard is designated for assignment after posting a 5.14 ERA in six appearances.
On Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals recalled RHP Hunter Dobbins from Triple-A Memphis and designated RHP Matt Pushard for assignment ahead of their series finale against the Chicago Cubs.
Selected from the Miami Marlins in the 2025 Rule 5 Draft, Pushard posted a 5.14 ERA across six appearances, struggling with a 6-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in seven innings.
Although Dobbins logged a 3.43 ERA as a starter in Triple-A, the team plans to utilize the 26-year-old in a long relief role to support a bullpen that tossed 10 2/3 innings recently.
If Pushard clears waivers and goes unclaimed, the Cardinals must offer him back to the Marlins for $50,000, adhering to Rule 5 requirements that mandate he remain on a big league roster.
This roster maneuver also clears a 40-man spot for the imminent return of Lars Nootbaar, addressing both immediate bullpen fatigue and long-term roster constraints.
