SUV Crashes Into Nanaimo Sushi Restaurant
Police detained a man in his 40s after the crash left several diners with minor injuries and extensive damage, officials said.
On Monday evening, a black Kia Seltos SUV smashed into a downtown Nanaimo sushi restaurant, causing extensive damage to the building's front and interior.
Mounties detained a man in his 40s on suspicion of drug-impaired driving following the collision, identifying him as the alleged driver at the scene.
Emergency Health Services, police, and firefighters arrived at the scene around 7:45 p.m. to assist several diners who suffered minor injuries and remained visibly shaken.
The driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, and police stated that no charges have been laid while the vehicle undergoes forensic examination.
Nanaimo RCMP officials are investigating the incident, and anyone with information related to the crash is asked to contact the detachment's non-emergency line for further assistance.
