Capital Region roof cleaning window is closing as November cools, Cohoes company says
The company says moss should be treated before temperatures drop below 50 degrees, while algae streaks can wait until spring.
With November cooling, Cohoes-based Near Me Exteriors urges Capital Region homeowners to schedule roof cleaning soon, warning that soft washing services must cease once daytime highs consistently drop below 50 degrees.
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association warns that moss can lift or curl shingles, potentially allowing water damage, while black algae streaks pose no structural harm and can safely wait until spring.
"Moss is the one we tell people not to sit on," said Forest Ward, owner of Near Me Exteriors, noting that treating moss now allows several weeks for growth to detach before winter snow begins.
According to NOAA, Albany's normal high temperature drops about 12 degrees during November, while December averages 13.3 inches of snow, making immediate treatment essential for roof maintenance.
