- The Hurricanes and Allen's family said the diagnosis followed routine medical tests, and Allen began his college career at Missouri before joining the Hurricanes this year.
- He has already started chemotherapy treatments and had been contributing regularly off the bench for Miami Hurricanes this year.
- Miami coach Jai Lucas said `Marcus is an incredible person and teammate, and we will do everything we can to support him and his amazing family during this difficult time`, while Allen's family thanked supporters and a GoFundMe page was created to assist treatment and expenses.
