Canadian judge denies Russian cargo airline sanctions relief
A Federal Court judge refused to lift sanctions on Volga-Dnepr Airlines, a Russian cargo company whose Antonov-124 plane was seized by Canada after the Ukraine war began in 2023.
Volga-Dnepr Airlines sought a judicial review of Canada's decision to maintain sanctions against it and its former chairman.
Global Affairs Canada stated that Volga-Dnepr Airlines supported efforts by the Russian regime to bypass sanctions and obtain goods for sensitive or military sectors.
The judge ruled that Volga-Dnepr Airlines did not prove the sanction decision was unfair.
A judge of the Federal Court rejected the application by the Russian company owner of the huge cargo aircraft seized by Canada after the war in Ukraine began.
