Canadian charity opens relief hub for children in Gaza

On Jan. 13, 2026, Human Concern International pledged $3.5 million to UNICEF Canada to open an emergency hub supporting nearly 1,500 children in Gaza with psychological aid.
UNICEF estimates more than a million children in Gaza need mental-health supports, with 97 per cent of schools damaged or destroyed as Canada and the U.S. cut foreign aid.
Amid restrictions on goods into Gaza, Usama Khan said `The need is so urgent` as Israel limits access to therapeutic toys and treatment materials aiding children in Gaza, while centres will provide expert psychological support and education.
Emergency hubs supported by UNICEF have reached 111,000 of the 700,000 school-aged children in Gaza who need education, and organizers focused on education and community recovery say the centres aim to restore a sense of community and safety.
HCI and UNICEF would not disclose the hub’s location or timing, and Usama Khan urged, `More attention is needed and more advocacy is needed, to ensure that Israel provides access for aid to freely go in.
