Canadian border service operation leads to seizure of fentanyl, other narcotics

  • The Canada Border Services Agency released results of Operation Blizzard, a month-long effort from February 12 to March 13 across Canada targeting illegal drugs in shipments.
  • Operation Blizzard launched under Canada's Border Plan to intercept fentanyl and other narcotics entering or leaving Canada via mail, air cargo, and marine containers.
  • Border officers completed over 2,600 seizures, focusing on shipments to and from the United States, with 67.5% of seizures involving drugs entering Canada from the U.S and 17.5% going outbound.
  • The operation resulted in the confiscation of 1.73 kilograms of fentanyl along with nearly 60 kilograms of various other narcotics, such as methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and ketamine, with the total value reaching millions of dollars. Kevin Brosseau, Canada's Fentanyl Czar, emphasized that fentanyl and other illicit substances represent a significant danger to both community well-being and public safety.
  • Operation Blizzard highlights the CBSA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking, protect communities, and work in partnership with law enforcement agencies across Canada and abroad.
