Canada loses to top-ranked U.S. in world sitting volleyball semifinal
Canada fell in straight sets to the top-ranked United States and must beat China to secure a Paralympic berth.
On Thursday, Canada lost 3-0 to the United States in a semifinal match at the World Sitting Volleyball Championships in Hangzhou, China, with set scores of 25-15, 25-22, and 25-7.
The top two tournament teams qualify for the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles, and the top-ranked United States has already secured their spot in the final against Brazil.
Kathryn Bridge led the Americans with 15 points, while Kaleo Kanahele Maclay and Emma Scheick added 13 and 12 points respectively; Captain Heidi Peters paced Canada with 13 points.
Friday's third-place game offers Canada a chance to earn a berth by defeating China, while the Canadian men's team finished 15th after a 3-0 victory over Japan.
The United States will now face Brazil in the championship final, positioning the Americans to secure their Paralympic qualification.
