Canada defeats Iran, moves into women’s sitting volleyball semifinals
Heidi Peters scored 24 points as Canada stayed unbeaten and set up a semifinal against the top-ranked United States.
On Wednesday, Canada defeated Iran 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the World Sitting Volleyball Championships in Hangzhou, China, advancing to the semifinals.
Five matches into the tournament, Canada remains unbeaten while pursuing a qualifying spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Captain Heidi Peters scored a game-high 24 points with Julia Chisholm adding 10. "Iran is a very feisty team, very strong," Peters said of the opponent.
The Canadians face the top-ranked United States on Thursday in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the gold-medal match.
While the women kept their medal hopes alive, the men's team dropped a 0-3 decision to Croatia and will continue classification play against China on Thursday.
