Can Mohammad Amir register for IPL auction? Former Pakistan player eyes Indian Premier League after switching nationality
Amir’s British citizenship could widen his franchise options and remove the need for a Pakistan Cricket Board no-objection certificate, officials said.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir dismissed speculation regarding his participation in the IPL 2027 mini-auction, clarifying that reports of his entry are incorrect.
Speculation surged after Amir registered for the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a UK national following his acquisition of British citizenship, prompting comparisons to former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood.
Mahmood played in the IPL between 2012 and 2015 using a British passport, while Amir has competed in The Hundred and T20 Blast as a local player in England.
Addressing the rumors on Friday, Amir wrote on his official X handle, "Hello, I would like to inform everyone that the news regarding the IPL is not correct."
The APL draft, scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, in Dubai, represents Amir's next professional step as he focuses on franchise cricket following his 2024 international retirement.
