Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Gritty Extraction Mode, DMZ, Gets First Gameplay

Infinity Ward says the extraction mode will feature replayable story missions, dynamic objectives and shared progression with multiplayer.

  • Activision revealed DMZ returns in Modern Warfare 4, described as the "definitive Call of Duty extraction experience, a living combat arena where every deployment is a new story." The PvPvE mode takes place in the volatile Hajin war zone.
  • After matches, players return to the Forward Operating Base, a central hub for purchasing weapons and expanding operator abilities. Serving as a CIA asset, players secure loot and technology across Hajin while facing various threats.
  • Cecot described gameplay features including Side Ops, dynamic weather, and specialized lieutenants who hunt successful players. The Boss Board allows players to track high-ranking targets in Hajin, providing higher tier rewards upon extraction.
  • Modern Warfare launches October 23rd on Xbox Series, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Players can go hands-on at Fanatics Fest from July 16th through July 19th ahead of release.
  • Alongside traditional PvPvE, DMZ features story missions and dynamic operations that evolve throughout seasonal content. Weapon progression is shared across multiplayer and DMZ, enabling consistent customization through the Gunsmith system.
