BYD Showcases Blade EV Battery with Ultra-Fast 9-Minute Recharging
BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging network enable charging from 10% to 70% in five minutes with a target of 20,000 stations nationwide by year-end.
- On Thursday, BYD unveiled the Blade Battery 2.0, saying Flash Charging charges it from 10% to 70% in five minutes, debuting in the Yangwang U7 luxury sedan.
- Facing a sales dip, BYD says faster charging will expand LFP use beyond budget cars and reverse the January and February 2026 sales dip amid fierce competition.
- The company detailed Flash Charging's 1.5 megawatt capacity, overhead draping cables at stalls, and 4,200 completed stations with plans to add about 16,000 more this year.
- Such recharge times depend on the 4,200 completed stations and the proprietary Flash Chargers, with BYD saying the system could add about 240 miles in five minutes.
- Compared with rivals, the U7's CLTC range claim is based on tests that overstate range by about 35%, and LFP packs cost $81 per kilowatt-hour, according to BloombergNEF.
