Aston Villa Stumble Again in 2-2 Draw with Burnley
Ross Barkley and Ollie Watkins scored for Villa, but Zian Flemming equalized and left Unai Emery’s side four points clear with two matches left.
On Sunday, Aston Villa drew 2-2 against already-relegated Burnley at Turf Moor, leaving Unai Emery's side clinging to fifth place in the Premier League with a four-point lead over Bournemouth.
Jaidon Anthony opened the scoring for Burnley early, but Ross Barkley equalized before halftime and Ollie Watkins put Villa ahead 11 minutes after the break before Zian Flemming leveled the score.
Villa manager Unai Emery made three changes from Thursday, while Burnley interim boss Michael Jackson opted for six alterations, with a Watkins header ruled out by VAR for marginal offside in the first half.
The draw extended Villa's difficult run, claiming only one point from a possible nine, as Emery acknowledged disappointment but noted the team must focus on upcoming fixtures to secure European qualification.
Bournemouth remains four points behind Villa with two games left to play, as Villa faces Liverpool on Friday before traveling to face title-chasing Manchester City, determining the fifth Champions League spot.
