Burger King testing AI headsets to track if employees say 'please' or 'thank you'
Burger King is piloting Patty, an AI assistant in 500 U.S. restaurants, to help staff with operations and track friendliness using keywords like 'please' and 'thank you'.
- Burger King is launching Patty, an OpenAI-powered voice assistant in employee headsets, piloted in 500 restaurants and coming to Canada in the second half of 2026, Restaurant Brands International said on Feb. 26, 2026.
- Using franchisee and guest feedback, Burger King trained the BK Assistant platform to recognize phrases like `welcome to Burger King`, `please`, and `thank you` to assist employees and measure friendliness.
- Employees will be able to ask Patty operational questions like how many bacon strips to use or how to clean the shake machine, while the system alerts managers to equipment issues and removes unavailable items from digital menus within 15 minutes.
- Managers can ask Patty for friendliness scores while Burger King plans to roll out the platform to all 7,000 locations this year, though observers warn worker adaptation remains uncertain.
