Bungie apologizes to fans, unseals ‘Destiny’ content vault, tries to convince the world it’s still Bungie
On Monday, September 21, 2026, Bungie announced plans to restore vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids, pledging to "build a stronger long-term future for Destiny, while honoring and restoring its past."
Studio head Poria Torkan and head of product Josh Deane acknowledged that previous decisions "had a lasting impact on player trust and enjoyment of Destiny" following at least 290 employee dismissals in June.
Updating lighting and combat encounters is required to ensure "returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today," as Bungie emphasized the franchise remains "foundational" to its future.
Alongside Destiny updates, Bungie plans to evolve Marathon into a "deeper survival experience," offering "meaningful experiences whether you prefer cooperative PvE, competitive PvP, or the unpredictable tension of Marathon PvPvE."
Skepticism remains regarding Bungie's ability to deliver on ambitious promises after a year of revenue shortfalls, though executives acknowledged they must earn back trust through the quality of upcoming releases.
