Harold Huwart, a member of the Centralist group Liot, announced that he would vote in favour of the Finance Bill on the night of Friday to Saturday, when it could be unanimously rejected by the MPs.
To support the purchasing power of the French, MEPs adopted on Thursday the abolition of VAT on essential products.
The government has appointed a food price commission to monitor price developments – and ensure that prices are not surreptitiously raised before the food VAT reduction in April next year. “Now the food giants and stores will have their eyes on them,” says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M).
The measure was adopted fairly, with 70 votes in favour and 62 against, on Thursday, but it is not guaranteed that it is preserved or constitutional.
This measure was carried by LFI. During the tight vote, the government camp abstained and the RN abstained.
