Bruins Practice: Hagens Out ‘Few Weeks,’ Forward Line Changes
The Bruins said Hagens will miss several weeks after the cross-check, and they recalled Mike Eyssimont from Providence to fill the roster spot.
On Saturday, the Boston Bruins placed rookie forward James Hagens on injured reserve following a cross-check from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Sam Girard during Thursday's 6-2 victory.
Following the cross-check early in the third period, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm confirmed Hagens will miss "a few weeks." The hit struck a vulnerable spot above his pants protection.
Boston recalled forward Mikey Eyssimont from the Providence Bruins to fill the roster spot. Eyssimont leads the AHL with 13 goals through eight games, while Hagens remains tied for the rookie lead with 12 points.
Coach Sturm shuffled the forward lines in response, moving Marat Khusnutdinov to the third line and Matt Poitras to the second line. "We also have Mikey coming in," Sturm said regarding future adjustments.
The injured reserve designation is retroactive to November 5, making Hagens eligible to return for Thursday's game against Montreal. The team will evaluate his recovery progress before determining his availability.
