Brown holds 6-point lead over Husted in Ohio Senate race survey
Brown’s stronger name recognition and favorability help him as voters cite the economy and cost of living as top concerns, the poll found.
Democratic former Sen. Sherrod Brown holds a 6-point lead over Republican Jon Husted in Ohio, according to CNN polling conducted September 29-October 5, with Brown more widely known and better liked than Husted.
Widespread economic dissatisfaction is reshaping Senate races in both states, with about four in 10 voters saying they are financially worse off than two years ago and majorities reporting Trump's policies increased the cost of living.
Nearly half of Ohio voters see Brown's views as about right ideologically while 43% call him too liberal; 62% of Brown's supporters cite backing him rather than opposing Husted, versus 56% of Husted's voters motivated by opposition to Brown.
Iowa's Senate race remains a dead heat, with Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson at 45% and Democrat Josh Turek at 43%, as nearly 3 in 10 voters remain undecided and Turek faces lower name recognition than Hinson.
Democrats must hold battleground seats in Michigan, New Hampshire and Georgia while flipping four Republican seats nationally, positioning Ohio as their next best pickup opportunity after North Carolina and Iowa as a deeper stretch.
