Brits issued pub warning over next few weeks amid '5 million pints to be pulled'
Zonal data shows bookings are up 300% and pub arrivals 293% as fans gather for England’s opening World Cup match.
Pubs saw an almost 300 per cent surge in bookings ahead of England's opening World Cup match against Croatia on Wednesday, with fans gathering despite later kick-off times.
According to data from technology provider Zonal, the hospitality sector anticipates a 42 per cent sales increase throughout the group stage, building on momentum from Euro.
Kate Nicholls, chairwoman of UKHospitality, stated the World Cup will be a "massive boost for our pubs and bars," as fans gather to support their local establishments.
Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, anticipates an extra five million pints will be pulled, while Opinium research projects £600 million in additional spending.
James Nicandrou, associate director at Opinium, noted pubs "continue to occupy an important place in community life," providing spaces for people to share moments throughout the campaign.
