Brits are feeling more confident with their money than they were two years ago
Savings confidence rose to 83% and retirement confidence to 54%, while more than half of respondents said they now feel financially confident.
An annual study of over 4,000 adults found financial confidence rose to 85% since 2024, with Southampton emerging as the most financially confident UK city after increasing from 62% in 2025 to 69% in 2026.
Commissioned by Moneybox and conducted by OnePoll, the annual Financial Confidence Index tracks how Brits feel about saving, investing, retirement and managing money day to day.
Data shows 85% of confident individuals set long-term financial goals versus 67% of others, while 88% research products before decisions compared to 71% of less confident adults.
Despite broad gains, confidence declined in Belfast and Brighton and Hove, falling to 65% and 64% respectively, while 46% of adults cite rising living costs as a retirement planning challenge.
Moneybox director Brian Byrnes emphasized that building confidence involves understanding personal goals rather than overnight expertise, stating: "Building financial confidence isn't about becoming an expert overnight or waiting until you have more money.
