A British woman who was kidnapped in Malawi has been rescued, police say
Police are offering a 30 million kwacha reward for credible tips as officers search for the British mother of two and the vehicle used.
Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British woman, was safely rescued in Malawi after being abducted in Blantyre on Sept. 11, according to police.
Osman, a mother of two who works for a local auditing firm, was reportedly taken around midday by four men traveling in a gray vehicle.
Her brother said the rescue involved a police operation in which Malawi’s deputy inspector general was shot and wounded, although authorities have not provided full details.
Police had previously offered a reward of about $17,000 for information leading to Osman’s rescue and the arrest and conviction of those responsible, while the motive and whether any suspects have been arrested remain unclear.
Malawian police on Thursday rescued 47-year-old Englishwoman Nusrat Osman, who had been kidnapped almost a week earlier. Four of the kidnappers were killed in a shootout and a police chief was injured.
