BREAKING: Air Peace Flight Operations Grounded Nationwide
Union members locked Air Peace terminals and halted departures, leaving passengers stranded and a 6:30 a.m. Lagos flight unable to take off, officials said.
- On Tuesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress disrupted flight operations at Lagos and Abuja airports, barricading Air Peace terminals and leaving passengers stranded as scheduled flights were halted.
- Unions, including the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria , initiated the strike alleging Air Peace restricted workers from unionizing and failed to remit the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge collected from passengers.
- Stranded travelers expressed frustration, with one passenger noting, "I have a 9:00 a.m. appointment in Abuja today, but unfortunately, I am currently stranded." Air Peace apologised, citing circumstances beyond its control.
- Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Director-General Capt. Chris Ona Najomo appealed for dialogue, noting that Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo's mediation attempt last week failed when airline operators declined to attend.
- Authorities remain confident the matter will be resolved shortly, with normal flight operations expected to resume as soon as practicable, provided unions receive assurances that workers may freely join organizations without victimisation.
