A playing member of South Africa's domestic side the Lions has died of an apparent heart attack in La Rochelle a day before the two sides were due to meet in the European Champions Cup.
A Johannesburg Lions rugby player was found dead Friday, October 16 in a hotel on the island of Re. He was about 30 years old and should have faced the Rochelais Stadium in Champions Cup on Saturday.
The rescues, which took place this Friday shortly after 10:20 a.m. in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, found a cardio-respiratory stop and tried to revive the player, in vain.
