Man Faces New Charges After WA Labor Figure Left in Coma
Brodie Jake Dewar faces charges for two assaults including one leaving WA Labor strategist Tim Picton in a coma with life-threatening brain injuries, police said.
- On Friday, Brodie Jake Dewar, 20, appeared at Armadale Magistrates Court charged over the assault that left Tim Picton in a coma and faces a fresh charge over a separate attack.
- Tim Picton, a prominent WA political and mining figure, was found unresponsive near James Street and Mountain Terrace on December 27, requiring surgery for skull fractures and brain bleeds.
- Court footage shown on Friday included CCTV from the Kalamunda Hotel car park and Snapchat videos where Brodie Jake Dewar can be heard saying `Keep snoring,` prosecutors called the blows `coward punches`.
- An application for bail was refused and Mr Dewar will remain in custody until February 6 after Magistrate Mark Millington described him as an inherent risk at Armadale Magistrates Court.
- The Kalamunda incident on Christmas Day involves a separate alleged victim and adds to questions over motive, as defence counsel says Dewar struck instinctively over unwanted advances while police prosecutors call the attack `unprovoked`.
